Selling Your Collection

At All American Midwest Cards LLC, we're always interested in purchasing quality collectibles.

One of the most common questions we receive is:

"Why don't you pay full market value?"

It's a fair question, and we'd like to explain.

When we purchase an item, we're purchasing it with the intention of reselling it. That means the price we pay has to allow room for the many costs involved in preparing that item for its next owner.

Every item must be researched, inspected, photographed, accurately described, listed for sale, stored safely, packaged carefully, and shipped securely. Along the way, we also pay marketplace selling fees, payment processing fees, shipping costs, packaging supplies, website expenses, advertising, taxes, insurance, and many other costs associated with operating a small business.

Some items sell quickly. Others may remain in inventory for weeks, months, or even years before finding the right buyer. Every purchase carries some level of risk, and not every item sells for the price we hope.

Because of this, our buying offers are based on several factors, including:

• Current market demand
• Overall condition
• Authenticity
• Rarity
• Expected resale value
• The time and expense required to prepare and sell the item

Every collection is evaluated individually. In some cases, we may even pay more for items that are in high demand or help fill gaps in our inventory. In other cases, we may need to offer less because an item is slower to sell or requires additional work before it can be offered for sale.

Where Does the Money Go?

Many people assume that if an item sells for $100, the business makes $100. In reality, the selling price is only the beginning.

Below is an example of what a typical $100 sale might look like.

Now let's assume we purchased that item for $60.00.

That remaining amount still helps cover many hours of work researching items, sorting collections, inspecting condition, cleaning when necessary, photographing products, creating listings, answering customer questions, organizing inventory, packing orders, bookkeeping, making trips to the post office, and continuing to grow the business.

This example is provided simply to show how a resale business operates. Every item and every collection is different, and every offer is based on the unique circumstances surrounding that purchase.
